Prince Edward County council voted to continue towards the redevelopment of H.J. McFarland Memorial Home on Thursday, Aug. 18.

The close-to-80 million dollar redevelopment will include a new 136,000 square foot building with 160 beds (with 850 square feet dedicated per bed).

Bloomfield-Hallowell Coun. Brad Nieman voiced concern that the new building will be situated too close to the Millennium Trail, and that the dust kicked up from passing ATVs will disturb the residents and their amenities.

Committee also voted to direct staff to engage The Prince Edward County Affordable Housing Corporation in regard to repurposing the current H.J. McFarland building for affordable housing.
