The Six Nations Elected Council may raise costs for certain services associated with Lands and Membership.
At the General Finance meeting on December 19th, Councillor Greg Frazer said he and other councillors had attended a short meeting with Lands and Membership staff.
From that meeting Frazer, along with other Councillors thought that they should consider increasing fees for blood quantum and family tree requests. Blood quantum is used for Six Nations members working in the United States.
In addition, Councillor Melba Thomas, who also took part in that meeting, stressed the workload being placed on the limited staff in the Lands office and cautioned about burnout.
Elected Chief Mark Hill agreed with the comments, but questioned why they were not just moving forward instead of involving Indigenous Services Canada.
It was suggested by several Councillors that the topic be discussed at the Elected Council retreat in January of 2023.
