Pre-pandemic, monthly open mic nights were a tradition on rural Cortes Island and now, the events are being revived by organizers and performers Catriona Vega and Sean Coyote.

The re-launch takes place Wednesday, July 20 at 7 p.m. in the Pioneer Room at Mansons Hall. Vega says several dates are scheduled for open mics over the summer, and whether or not they continue depends on how popular the events are over these months.

The Southern Cortes Community Association, (SCCA) is providing space in Mansons Landing Community Hall for the open mic nights.

Vega says they're a great opportunity for people new to performing to get their feet wet in front of a supportive audience. She adds that the everyone is welcome at the all-age events and performances by musicians, story tellers and poets are encouraged.
