Estrie is confirming fewer positive cases of COVID-19.

The health region that includes Brome Lake has confirmed a total of 10,125 cases of COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic in March of last year. This week brought an increase of 59 positive cases (Jan. 20), a decrease from 92 recorded the previous day.

“We have  seven active cases. You know before the holidays it was 33 then we went up to 43, so we went up 10,” clarified Richard Burcombe, mayor of Brome Lake, about the town's case count.

The curfew was implemented Jan. 9 which can be seen as a contributor to the drop in active cases. The 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew is in place until Feb. 8 when it will either be extended or cancelled.

“So, it’s working. What’s in place is certainly working and we must keep, we can’t let our guard down,” said Burcombe.

The province of Quebec reported 1,502 positive cases of COVID-19 and 66 deaths yesterday. Over the past few days the slope of the curve has been decreasing.
