Some members of the black community in Victoria, British Columbia (B.C), on Tuesday expressed relief that the tsunami risk off of the coast of Alaska poses no risk to British Columbians.
CFUV 101.9 FM spoke with Adam Sandtey who said it feels like he had been given a new lease to life.
``When I heard about the tsunami off of the coast of Alaska that could put BC at risk, I panicked. I immediately thought about my year-old daughter and my family.
``I also remembered the tsunami that devastated Haiti where thousands of lives were lost. That economy is yet to recover.
``I'm so relieved and pleased to hear there's no risk to BC. It’s like I've been given a new lease to life with my young family,’’ Sandtey said.
A student, Tumi Henry also expressed relief to CFUV 101.9 FM: ``coming from a region where natural disasters hardly happen, of course, I panicked. It's good to learn that we are safe in BC’’.
The United States had warned of the danger of a tsunami in parts of Alaska after a magnitude 7.5 earthquake struck off its coast on Monday afternoon. Emergency officials and BC have confirmed there is no risk to the province.
