Prince Edward County Council approved of amendments to the Millennium Trail By-Law on Thursday that includes a refined definition of “recreational use” and prohibits commercial services from utilizing the trail for their business plans.
Arryn McNichol, county director of Corporate and Legislative Services, provided clarity regarding the difference between recreational and commercial use at the meeting:
These amendments were brought forward because of previous reports concerning a wine tour operator who was planning to deploy large six-seater side-by-side UTVs (Utility Task Vehicles) on the 49 kilometre trail.
Council also approved for staff to begin collecting baseline data on Millennium Trail usage to inform additional potential regulatory changes for assessment by council next year.
