Coast Mountain College hosts grand opening for renovated building

Coast Mountain College held a grand opening for the newly renovated Waap Sa’mn building yesterday.

The library renovation started off the project build after significant flooding damage in 2019. Then in 2020, the college received additional funds to renovate the main core of the building and the second floor.

The interior renovations to the main and second floors of the building are complete and classes are underway. The total cost of these two renovation phases was $13.4 million and was fully-funded by the province.

The upgrades to Waap S'amn, meaning "house of spruce," included academic spaces. Classrooms are up graded with technologies to make education more accessible across a large geographic region. Computer, nursing, and science labs have all received upgrades to better assist students.

Selina Robinson, minister of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills, was in attendance for the ribbon cutting.
