The energy to bring people back together on Cortes Island is taking a hold in Mansons Landing, with a new community group emerging.
Cora Moret said a recent community survey showed a renewed demand for social gatherings. The Southern Cortes Community Association (SCCA) conducted the survey, since the organization owns and coordinates events for Mansons Hall. In response to the demand, "CLAM" was formed. CLAM stands for “Community-Led at Mansons,” and Moret, a leading member of the group, explains it was called that because “that was the nicest sounding acronym, but really it's just about creating more opportunity for people to throw events so that we can get together and enjoy things and experience things and gather at Mansons Hall, specifically.” The SCCA is not officially associated with CLAM, hence the name "Community-Led…"
CLAM spearheaded two recent events at Mansons Hall. In March, the community group hosted an outdoor concert and art show, with five-mushroom chili at the concession. Since then, CLAM has begun focusing on Tuesday nights to host a movie night or workshop at Mansons Hall and is planning an upcoming workshop, which will be advertised on the Tideline.
“Our community is packed with talent and ideas and let's have them. Let's bring them out. We'd love to help you do that. Anybody can do that, it is a benefit for all,” Moret said.
