The City of Nelson and the local chapter of Doctors and Nurses for Planetary Health are collaborating on an initiative promoting active transportation in the form of cycling.

They have been awarded a $30,000 grant from the BC Alliance of Healthy Living, $17, 000 of which will go towards cycling gear that will be given away to residents at the Winter Cycling Expo.

The Winter Cycling Expo will be held at the Prestige Lakeside Resort in Nelson next weekend; the event will feature a panel discussion on the benefits of cycling as well as prize giveaways.

Cecilia Jaques, Senior Climate and Energy Strategist for the City of Nelson, and Dharma McBride, a family physician and Department Head of the Kootenay Lake Hospital Emergency Department, joined CJLY to discuss the Winter Cycling Expo, and how cycling benefits our health and the health of the planet.

The Winter Cycling Expo will be on Sunday, Nov. 26 from 12 - 4 p.m.
