The City of Nelson hosted its annual reception on Wednesday to acknowledge individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the community. Mayor Janice Morrison presented awards in four categories.

The initial accolade was the Sustainable Leadership Award, which had three recipients. These included the Street Outreach Program from Nelson Community Services, Dan Thompson from Rokform Solutions, and George Chandler from Nelson At Its Best.

Next was the Sports Ambassador Award; it was presented to 18-year-old boxer Lola Brouillette.

The third award presented was the Cultural Ambassador Award, which recognizes individuals who have achieved a remarkable level of excellence in their artistic field. This year's recipient was Deb Thompson.

Lastly, the Heritage Award was given to an organization that has made notable efforts in preserving or promoting Nelson's heritage. The Hume Hotel was the winner for their restoration of the original Hume Hotel sign.
