Circle of Courage Awards presented The Spirit of Independence Award to Ilias Chalifoux this week at the Alberta Indigenous Games 2021.

Twenty-one-year-old Ilias Chalifoux was surprised to learn that he won the Spirit of Independence Award in Basketball for the Circle of Courage Awards, held at the Alberta Indigenous Games 2021 this week.

Ilias' mother, Fran Chalifoux was very proud of his son winning the award.

The Circle of Courage Awards have four different categories, Spirit of Belonging, Spirit of Generosity, Spirit of Mastery, and Spirit of Independence. Each sport is awarded each of the awards so some have already been awarded.

The remaining awards will be presented tonight at the closing ceremonies of the Alberta Indigenous Games 2021.

Further information on the Circle of Courage Awards and a list of recipients can be found on the games website and Facebook page.
