With the provincial elections approaching this fall, CHIP 101.9 spoke with the Pontiac candidate for the Green Party of Quebec, Pierre Cyr. The Fort-Coulonge resident previously worked for NAV Canada and retired four years ago to the Pontiac region. He said that while he has no background in politics, he wanted to get involved in the local area.

Cyr said that he chose the Green Party because they are a federalist party that’s focused on environmental issues. He also said that he was attracted to the fact that it’s a young party, where members can make a difference.

When asked what he thought of the CAQ government’s record for their first term in power, Cyr said that while there had been some bad moves in their pandemic response, he thought they did a good job. He said that he was tired of the old battles between the Liberals and the Parti Quebecois over sovereignty, which is why he viewed the CAQ as an alternative to the old system.
