A group of female firefighters from across the Pontiac are putting out a charity calendar to raise funds for the family of a fallen comrade.
Tracey Moore, a member of the Kazabazua-Danford Lake Fire Department, explained that Sonya Rivington of the Mansfield Fire Department was the one who came up with the idea earlier this year, originally as a way to drum up recruitment for local departments. She reached out to women from other areas and nine of them got together for the photo shoot this summer.
Following the death of Luc Harper Jr. of the Kazabazua Department in May, it was decided that they would donate the proceeds from this year's edition to Harper's widow.
The calendars also feature the email of the MRC Public Safety Coordinator, for those looking to join a department in the Pontiac region or for more information on what that entails. Moore said that they had some ideas for the next calendar, which they will be planning next year.
Moore said that what she likes the most about being a firefighter is the camaraderie and community spirit that it fosters.
Moore said that the calendars will be available for $25 at this weekend's Oktoberfest celebrations in Ladysmith. They are hoping that local businesses will be on board with selling the calendar as well.
