There are two people in the running to be mayor of Revelstoke, 12 people running for the six city councillor positions, and eight people running for the five school board trustee positions.

This is for the upcoming province-wide elections on October 15.

Also running are Angus Woodman, Tim Stapenhurst, Eddie Shultz, Rushda Rubaia, Aaron Orlando, Austin Luciow, Tony Juglum, John Hordyk, Lee Devlin and Matt Cherry.

Sarah Zimmer and Alan Chell are two school board trustees running again. Joining them in the race are: Jodie Allen, Nathan Harrison, Tamarin Martin, Cat Moffat, Wendy Rota and Sasha Walsh.

It's possible to vote by mail-in ballot this election. The registration deadline to do so is tomorrow, Sept. 16.

Day of Mourning

The federal government announced Sept. 19 is a Day of Mourning for British monarch Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away on Sept. 8. British Columbia followed suit, saying in a statement that federal employees will get a statutory holiday on Monday.

Public schools and most crown corporations will be closed.

“We have advised the provincial public-sector employers to honour this day in recognition of the obligations around federal holidays in the vast majority of provincial collective agreements,” reads the statement.

It goes on to say, "we encourage private sector employers to find a way to recognize or reflect on the day in a way that is appropriate for their employees."

The City of Revelstoke will acknowledge the day by suspending "most non-essential services," and "most city facilities will be closed." The city said in a statement posted to its website.

The aquatic and fitness centres and arena will be open regular hours, and all city recreation programming will go ahead as planned. That's due to the short notice of the holiday, said the statement.
