A verbal update by Elected Councillor Helen Miller at the Six Nations General Elected Council meeting on April 11 addressed the recent Assembly of First Nations Special Chiefs Assembly she attended along with Elected Chief Mark Hill. The assembly took place April 3-6 in Ottawa.

In her submission, Miller spoke about the main highlights of the conference but it was Canada’s Action Plan regarding the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People or UNDRIP that Chief Mark Hill stated as being the big takeaway and referred to as UNDRA or the “United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act”.

Other topic’s mentioned by Miller from the Assembly included Health and Child Welfare,  specifically the 1965 Child Welfare Agreement to which further information will be coming at a later date.
