The region of Brome-Missisquoi is adapting and working to attract more families and young workers.

The goal is to attract 10,000 new workers and 6,000 new families over the span of 10 years. Ideally, the region is hoping that people aged 18-40 years move in — English or French speaking, immigrants, qualified workers, specialized workers and so forth.

“By end of spring 2028 Brome-Missisquoi should have a new population of new workers and families,” stated Nathalie Grimard, director of the territory management service.

To achieve this goal, the region is launching a marketing campaign aimed towards the city of Montreal's population.

“It is necessary we address the issue of affordable housing and lack of public transportation,” said Grimard.

Ideas of constructing tiny homes, ecological homes and communal homes are being considered.

Brome-Missisquoi is working with municipalities to address these issues may present road blocks in the plan. The region encompasses all the Eastern Townships.
