The City of Brantford and The Sanderson Centre for the Performing Arts are excited to be getting their acts back into action after being affected by the COVID-19 pandemic like so many other local businesses.

The theatre will host a variety of different acts over the summer months and will kick off its The Sanderson Centre Presents shows starting Sept. 29 when comedian and actor Brent Butt takes the stage. Those shows will continue to run throughout the 2023 season.

The Sanderson Centre Theatre Manager Glenn Brown spoke with CJKS about what visitors and audiences can expect for the upcoming season.

"We try to bring something for everybody, we try to serve the whole community," Brown said. "So we have a mix of a lot of music of different genres and everything else. We try to round things out for our audiences. We have school programming, we have programming geared toward the matinee markets and everything in between, so there's quite a bit to choose from."

Brown also talked about the importance of making sure local talent is being recognized and offering a place to be able to perform and give those artists a chance for audiences to take in their work.

"It's also about discovering and finding a way to bring in artists that may not have that huge audience but still have a fan base in the area that we can bring in."

"We try to remember its not just people coming to see the sold out shows with the big audience, we also want to serve everyone else and bringing in some emerging artists locally is always a thrill," he added.

The theatre has really encouraged and spotlighted Indigenous acts and Brown spoke on that and why its important for the venue to offer the platform for them.

"It's a big part of what we want to be doing, I think the Indigenous community has been under served for a lot of years and we're trying to make sure that this is a place for everybody in the community and that means bringing indigenous artists but also telling Indigenous stories," he said.
