Brantford Native Housing (BNH) is getting set to welcome community members to a traditional style social event next Monday, December 19 at the Doug Snooks Eagle Place Community Center in Brantford from 5 to 8 p.m.
The social is going to include traditional dancing as well as supper being provided for community members attending. Brenda Beaven, Community Relations Manager for BNH said the organization has been making it a priority to engage the community more with these social events and other workshops provided by BNH.
“I think the main goal would be just to get people out and reconnect with each other and culture and community, that’s our vision”.
Beaven spoke of the COVID-19 pandemic and how the organization has had to adapt to the changing landscape. She said that the organization has fortunately been able to stay open to support its tenants and community at large throughout the pandemic but she stressed that BNH is trying to expand and engage more in the community and make more of that presence known.
She said that with restrictions easing and the organization being able to hold these types of events again they have seen more engagement from community members.
“The last one we held we had approximately 35 people, which was great for our first turnout. So we’re really hoping that as our events grow, that’s going to be more people getting out and getting connected”.
