Bath will soon be host to a brand new community garden featuring 10 garden beds in the heart of the village. The land, donated by Mackinnon Brothers Brewing, is located on Queen Street between Church and Davy.
The Bath and District Lions Club, the group heading up the operation, have begun clearing the space and making plans for garden beds. President Fred Brown said at first, residents will be able to get their own space within the garden by donation. Over time, the process may change, but, overall, the club wants residents of Bath to feel welcome to use the garden.
As they work towards opening up the garden later this spring, the Bath and District Lions Club has already been receiving help from all over the community. Neighbours and friends have been carting away brush and debris from the lot, and they've also begun construction on the garden's main sign. The sign will sit atop a tall flower bed at the front side of the lot facing Queen Street.
Brown said the idea for the community garden came to him when he realized there weren't any outdoor spaces for seniors in Bath. Now, this spring, they'll be able to offer residents a small garden bed within a community of other gardeners all set up in the village. The community garden will be open and available to use in all growing seasons.
