"Art in the Garden" is a summer program being offered by the Cortes Museum and Archives.

The program is coordinated by Laura Balducci and takes place in the Heritage Garden of the museum. Each Tuesday, throughout the summer, Balducci has invited a local artist to showcase their creative process for a small audience, sometimes involving a workshop component.

Bobbie-Gene Hanson will be the artist highlighted this Tuesday, Aug. 23. Hanson works with Sola Wood flowers, which are actually made from the root of a plant that grows in Thailand and India. The artist shared more about her mindfulness around sourcing the delicate material.

“The company that I buy my flowers from; they are a women-owned business… and they import flowers from just a few select families in Thailand and help to support them and their community.”

From noon to 3 p.m. on Aug. 23, you can find Bobbie-Gene Hanson in the Heritage Garden sharing her craft. The event is free, and donations are appreciated.
