And the results are in: Brome-Missisquoi votes in CAQ candidate Charest

Over the last couple of weeks, CIDI 99.1 FM had the chance to sit down with some of the Brome-Missisquoi candidates that ran in this year’s Quebec provincial election. They had the opportunity to speak on their political platform and the issues they planned to address in the region and at the provincial level.

These candidates were Isabelle Charest (Coalition avenir Québec (CAQ), Pierre Fontaine (Démocratie directe), Sébastien Houle (Indépendant), Alexandre Legault (Québec solidaire (QS)), Lynn Moore (Canadian Party of Québec), Caitlin Moynan (Green Party), Guillaume Paquet (PQ), Stéphanie Prévost (Parti conservateur du Québec (CPQ)), Tommy Quirion-Bouchard (Climat Québec), and Claude Vadeboncoeur (Quebec Liberal Party (QLP). 

After a busy voting day on Oct. 3, the results are officially in. 

According to the Élections Québec website, there were 6,302,789 registered electors across the province. The number of votes cast was 4,163,603 at 66.06 per cent.

There were 4,107,386 valid ballot papers and 56,217 rejected ballot papers.

In terms of the provincial results for this year’s election, out of the 125 electoral divisions in Quebec 90 candidates were voted in from the CAQ with 1,683,102 votes, giving the party parliamentary majority and Premier François Legault another four-year term. 

The QLP gained 21 seats with 590,205 votes, 11 candidates were voted in from QS with 633,457 votes, and three candidates were voted in from the PQ with 599,635 votes. All other parties claimed no seats. 

In Brome-Missisquoi, there were 66,769 registered electors and there were 45,394 votes cast at 67.99%. 

There were 44,856 valid paper ballots and 538 rejected paper ballots. 

Charest of the CAQ was voted in for another four-year term here in Brome-Missisquoi with 20,576 votes. Following behind her was QS candidate Legault with 7,138 votes. 

Paquet of the PQ claimed 5,359 votes, Vadeboncoeur of the QLP received 5,344 votes, and Prévost of the (CPQ) had 4,875 votes. 

Moore of the newly formed Canadian Party of Quebec received 642 votes, followed by Green Party candidate Moynan with 487 votes, Houle, who ran independently, with 209 votes, and Quirion-Bouchard of Climat Québec who received 121 votes. 

Now that the results are officially in, CIDI plans to follow up with Charest to express interest in speaking with her about the first steps she plans on taking as the re-elected representative for Brome-Missisquoi.
