Saturday is the third National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and a number of local events are planned, including in Alderville First Nation.

Chief Taynar Simpson says everyone is welcome to Alderville Health & Social Services from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. where community members and allies will join together wearing orange to honour and remember the Indigenous families and children affected by residential schools in Canada.

The event will include jingle dress dancers, drumming and singing and more. Anyone attending is asked to park at the Alderville baseball diamond or community centre and take the available shuttle.

There will also be a free shuttle service from Cobourg to Alderville. Pick-ups will take place at 9:10 a.m. at the downtown bus terminal at 35 Albert Street and 9:20 a.m. at Northumberland Mall outside Scotiabank. The shuttle will leave Alderville back to Cobourg at both 12 p.m. and 1 p.m., with drop-offs at the same locations.
