2020 was a successful year for the Town of Brome Lake. Many construction projects were completed, the budget was well respected, but the pandemic did create many challenges.

“We thought that we would, you know, have a great year 2020, which we still did in a way,” said Richard Burcombe, Mayor of Brome Lake.

The pandemic forced the town to change all their plans and put all tourism and culture events on hold. Brome Lake relies on seasonal tourism making this one of the largest challenges.

“We’re far worse off in the second wave then we were in the first wave, so we just hope for the best,” stated Burcombe.

The town was lucky to receive money and aid through government subsidies. The town was also forced to spend extra money, that was not in the original budget, to handle the problem of Douglas Beach.

“It’s been a challenging year,” reflected Burcombe.

As for the future, there are plenty of projects to be completed in 2021.
