Earlier this month, the City of Abbotsford unveiled four options for recovery and rebuilding following the November 2021 flooding in the region.

"Four draft options developed for discussion with residents, businesses, governments and stakeholders range in cost from an estimated $209 million to nearly $2.797 billion and offer a range of flood mitigation and protection measures for residents and businesses of Sumas Prairie," Let's Talk Abbotsford's website states.

Henry Braun, mayor of Abbotsford, said that since the beginning or middle of January, the city has moved towards recovery.

"We're still dealing with the flood response but we've pivoted to recovery: we're doing both of those things simultaneously," he said.

In addition, the City of Abbotsford has met with farmers, landowners and Indigenous people on the impact of the disaster. But Braun was unable to provide further detail due to an ongoing class-action lawsuit involving the City of Abbotsford and the impacted property owners on Sumas Prairie.
