A string of bear-human conflicts in Nelson has led to at least 12 bears being euthanized, local conservation officers say.

The latest encounter took place on Friday on Vernon Street in downtown Nelson, when customers at Empire Coffee saw a black bear in a tree in the middle of the street during the morning rush. Conservation officers shot a tranquilizer dart into the animal, which was later taken away and euthanized.
