Quinte Conservation and its consultants presented a Shoreline Management Plan to council for the preservation and remediation of Prince Edward County’s changing shoreline on June 7.
The presentation called for a multi-staged approach to protecting against and adapting to shoreline erosion brought on by rising lake levels, especially seen in 2017. The measures included the preservation of natural shorelines as much as possible, avoiding developments inside shoreline hazards, floodproofing, roadway realignment, home relocation and nature-based erosion and flood prevention schemes.
As well, the presentation recommended that the Shoreline Management Plan and its associated Hazard Mapping be incorporated into the County’s Official Plan and zoning by-laws.
