Tourism Kingston is highlighting all the sectors involved during tourism awareness week, including hospitality, film, visitor information services, travel trades, sport and wellness. The week kicked off with an adventure race with front-line workers making stops around downtown Kingston.
“Every day we’re creating a micro campaign to make sure we’re clarifying, communicating and celebrating these six sectors, as opposed to a general statement that tourism is important," Executive Director Megan Knott says.
Knott says tourism in Kingston isn’t just seasonal.
“Some destinations are specific on time of year, around a certain event, I think Kingston’s different…there’s always something to see and do.”
In the city of Kingston, tourism has a $533 million economic impact per year, and makes up nearly 10 per cent of Kingston’s workforce, supplying 15 thousand jobs. Relative to its population, Kingston has the most domestic tourism in Canada, with $4.5 million visitors in 2019.
