The 2023 JUNO Awards are heading to Edmonton and excitement is already in the air. The city is set to host the awards event in March 2023 at Rogers Place.
The JUNOS announcement event at the Northern Jubilee Auditorium started off with an Indigenous prayer and blessing, along with words from the Edmonton Mayor Amarjeet Sohi. Performances by JUNO award winner Maria Dunn and Nominee Shawnee Kish followed.
President and CEO of CARAS and the JUNO Awards Allan Reid says that this will be an economic opportunity for the City of Edmonton when it hosts the event next year. This is the second time Edmonton will host the event after its last run back in 2004.
Mayor Sohi says that this will also provide an opportunity to showcase Indigenous talent at Roger’s Place.
Juno award winner and folk artist Maria Dunn spoke on the hopes of the JUNO’s showcasing more Edmonton artists, along with showing community and truth and reconciliation.
