Sports Physio Plus Clinic in Knowlton, co-owned by Amy Rogerson and Karina Tcholkayan, has expanded its space to fulfill the demand for rehab services in the area. Taking up the entire building they once shared with Service Quebec, Sports Physio Plus Clinic now offers physiotherapy, massage therapy, osteopathy and kinesiology as result of the enlarged space.

“We’ve been practicing in Knowlton for quite some time now and in general there is a trend towards a greater need for rehab services all across the board,” said Rogerson. “As you know, the medical system right now is super overloaded and there is a lot of backlogeven post pandemicso there is a growing need overall.”

Tcholkayan said the need for rehab services started to peak las September and motivated them to go ahead with the expansion.

“With the expansion the idea is that we will now be able to offer six treatment rooms. We will be able to provide more physiotherapy services and we’d have two rooms at the front of the building to help out with allied health care professionals - so massage therapy, osteopathy, and we’ve got Andrea Wilson helping us out with kinesiology as well,” explained Tcholkayan.

Sports Physio Plus Clinic now has a large gym for its clientele to do a variety of exercises and to move around as much as possible.

“The overall reaction of people walking in who knew us before to now is wow, it’s so open and bright. It makes for a really positive environment to work in,” added Rogerson. “That, I think, just to have a more open, lit up space is also motivating not only for us, but our clients as well.”

This new gym space will allow the clinic’s physiotherapy services to be more accessible to the community.

“We know that there is a financial limitation sometimes to access physiotherapy care if you don’t have insurance coverage or if you just don’t have the means to pay out of pocket for our services,” said Rogerson. “Over five years ago now we started developing group rehab courses to meet that need. Essentially, the fees are split between a group of people, but we are still providing the education and the guidance for exercises that we would do in a normal physical therapy session. Our open gym space will now allow us to be able to host those courses in house, and for us that is something that is really important.”

With new rehab specialists joining the team, Rogerson said that Sports Physio Plus Clinic wants to continue to strive to provide quality care and that the new space will help them accomplish that.

“The idea is really just to adapt our services with what the community needs and I think we’ve been able to adjust as we go along and as we are growing,” added Tcholkayan. “We want to continue going that way.”
