Corporate marketing may be stale to some, but one Fraser Valley resident is learning to use it to the public’s advantage.
John Visser, a local environmental activist, shares with CIVL the similarities marketers for several sectors share. Visser says as the marketing and promotions people who manage campaigns—whether it was the cigarette companies in the 1960s and 1970s, the petrochemical companies in the 1980s and 1990s, and now the oil and gas sector—all use the same marketing strategy. By using the same techniques as these companies, he says environmental activists such as himself can challenge their ideas and ideology.
