In February, the Golf Association of Ontario announced via their website the first annual Indigenous Ontario Golf Championship. The tournament will take place at Mont-Hill Golf and Country Club from September 18-20 and will be hosted by Chief Mark Hill and the Six Nations of the Grand River Territory.

Tournament Director John Lawrence said it was very exciting to announce the inaugural event. The tournament will allow the Indigenous community to compete at a provincial level: the event is "open to golfers of First Nations (North American Indian), Métis, or Inuk (Inuit) descent," according to the Golf Ontario website.

Lawrence also stated that this tournament is a "starting point"—it could mean more events coming to the community in the future.

Registration opened April 6. Anyone interested is welcome to register at www.gao.ca
