In 2022, Thorne residents will see their mill rate drop by 4 cents per $100 valuation, from 64 cents to 60. Mayor Karen Kelly said that they made the decision to lower the rate in order to give taxpayers a bit of a break.

This year, revenues and expenses were balanced at $1,897,438, with $196,989 appropriated from the surplus. Taxes and transfers made up the majority of revenues, at $867,400 and $784,923, respectively. Transportation was the biggest expense, with general administration and investing activities.

Kelly said that they had put out a tender for someone to refurbish their rink last year but hadn’t been able to find any offers, which she chalked up to the fluctuations in prices for materials, among other issues. She said that they had set money aside in this budget for the project.

She said that roads were always a priority, and highlighted some of the work that had been done on Rte. 366 as well as the Johnson Lake Road.
