A local chinese restaurant is responding to a viral video that allegedly shows one of their employees putting spilled sauce back into a container this week.

The video, which shows a man scooping what appears to be a red and brown liquid back into a white container, was originally published by the media platform 6ixBuzzTV on its Instgram profile.

The video had over 600,000 views before 6ixBuzzTV removed it from its profile in the last 48 hours.

The restuarant, Hong Shing, took to their own Instagram profile to write that they are disappointed by the post and by 6ixBuzz continually pushing the "discriminatory narrative of Chinese restaurants being unsanitary."

Hong Shong indicated that 6ixBuzz did not reach out to the restaurant to fact check prior to the video's publication.

Further, the restaurant's post outlines their food handling methods, marking items meant for disposal and working closely with Toronto Public Health.

Hong Shing owner Colin Li was reached for comment by CJRU regarding the video this week, but no response was given at this time.

Li and the worker featured in the video did offer an exclusive interview with Global News Toronto, explaining what happened to the containers following the spill.

Hong Shing is located on Dundas Street West and University Avenue. The restaurant, which has operated for more than 25 years, recently recovered from a fire that destroyed its kitchen during the second COVID-19 city lockdown in spring 2021.
