The Cortes Island Women's Resource Centre is celebrating its third year in operation on Jan. 2, and its founder has ambitious plans for the new year.

Tanya Henck, founder and director of the organization, says there’s a need to expand programming, develop deeper support networks, and help to address a shortage of available and affordable housing. She adds that there’s also a deep need for donations to support the work of the centre.

Birthed in early 2019, the Cortes Island Women's Resource Centre has served women and children of the community of 1,000 year-round residents with crisis support, programs and other services. These range from accessing transition houses, supplying food, delivering well-being, skill-building and creative programs, and providing space for personal and professional development.
