River Cree Casino and Resort is hosting its first ever Christmas holiday market, which will feature 60 Indigenous vendors selling handmade items, including beadwork, crafts, ribbon skirts and art, all made by First Nations, Métis and Inuit artists.
It is called maskêkosihk pipon âtawêwikamik, which means "Enoch winter store." And it will be held right in the casino’s entertainment centre where they host their concerts.
There will be dancers, singers and, of course, an appearance by Santa.
“You know, it really provides an opportunity to share culture,” said organizer Jayne Behm, adding it’s a great opportunity for the vendors to make Christmas money. “And a great opportunity for people to purchase these beautiful handmade things.”
The market will be open from 12 p.m. until 8 p.m., Friday to Sunday.
COVID-19 protocols will be in place, including proof of vaccination.
Further information can be found on the River Cree Casino and Resort website or Facebook page.
