Facundo Gastiazoro and Wet'suwet'en Artist Stephanie Anderson are two painters in the north from the Raven-Taquara Collective. These artists are painting two murals in Smithers BC: One on the wall of the Bulkley Valley Recreational Centre and Community Pool on Highway 16 (the infamous "Highway of Tears"), and the second is on Main Street in Smithers, on the wall of the Dze L Kant Friendship Centre.
These murals are happening in conjunction with trauma-informed healing workshops and acknowledgements for the families, community members, friends and elders of the women and girls who were murdered or are missing.
In the North, the missing and murdered Indigenous Women and Girls and 2 Spirit epidemic needs to be faced and acknowledged by our communities. Tune in next week when Dan Mesec speaks to people who are effected by the MMIWG and are participating in this traditional healing process.
