Over 2,500 athletes will compete in Edmonton this week for the Alberta Indigenous Games 2021.

Canada's largest multi-sport Indigenous Summer Games will include a week of competitive sports, traditional games, cultural connection with an Elder's village, and other special events including an entertainment stage, round dance and a barbeque.

Athletes will be participating in 12 different sports including, baseball, ball hockey, basketball, cross-country, fast-pitch softball, beach volleyball, hand games, lacrosse, soccer, volleyball, rugby and golf.

This is the seventh edition of the Indigenous summer games, founded by the late Allan Ross in 2011.

Jake Hendy is the executive director of the Indigenous Sports Council of Alberta and CEO of the Alberta Indigenous Games. He says, they are in need of volunteers for baseball and basketball.

Most of the events will happen at Rundle Park.
