After being caught in the middle of a local debate over the term "Black Lives Matter," the Abbotsford Downtown Business Association commits to reforming its organization to better reflect the community it serves.

In the summer, the association faced backlash after a local restaurant posted a racist comment on its Instagram account and the association deleted it rather than addressing it.

Executive Director Jennifer McEwan talked to CIVL about some of the changes the association is implementing in the wake of the social media controversy. The business organization is creating a new committee with the goal of bringing in new policies that will diversify the organization.

According to McEwan, they will work with all their association members to provide the necessary resources which will be instrumental in the implementation of the new diversity policy. The association has been reaching out to organizations such as Black Connections and Archway to learn from their example on how to handle diversity issues.
