A new café is jumping to get started in Belwood.
Mad Hatter Bake and Brew Bunny Café will be the first in Ontario to offer an outdoor bunny café. They begin business Thursday.
Sarah Murray, whose near dozen bunnies will be grazing around customers while they order, says these creatures are an ideal breed that just likes to relax and be in each other's company.
The bunnies, including a Flemish Giant white rabbit, will be just a part of the fun taking place outside the Skol House.
Murray says there will be a light menu available, as she is running the kitchen solo, while her husband keeps an eye on the rabbits.
She added the space is for all, including those like herself who were heavily impacted by COVID-19.
"It's a whole lot more than just providing a venue for kids, for sure. I was somebody who was impacted financially, and my mental health was also impacted," Murray said.
"It kind of gives people a place where they don't have those stresses and pressures and they can kind of try and step out of their bubble they may have gotten caught in," she addedd.
Murray says the landscape and the environment are quite soothing.
"There's really not a lot of spaces for people who are dealing that kind of stuff. It's really hard to try and get out and interact and socialize with people again, and even be around groups of people or in public," Murry said.
"So to have this setting where we're in the country and you can kind of interact with the rabbit- it's an easy thing to connect to," she added.
Murray went on to say the distinction of being the first to take up this type of venture in Ontario is "kind of neat," but didn't come without challenges such as infrastructure and researching which rabbits would be akin to this environment.
There will be Thursday movie nights at the café each week beginning at 9 p.m.
