Loyalist Township council approved a Request For Expression of Interest (RFEI) on July 10 to identify transportation service providers who have the resources to help expand Route 10 and other transportation options in the township.
According to staff, the RFEI will provide transportation industry leaders with the opportunity to provide information, input, and advice on how to provide an effective service in the community.
During a meeting on Jan. 20, hosted by Lennox and Addington County, the Town of Greater Napanee expressed their interest in expanding the existing transit service with Deseronto Transit, as opposed to continuing a joint transportation service with Loyalist
Township.
The county CAO proposed that funding from the Community Transportation Grant be divided equally between Loyalist Township and Greater Napanee, and the motion was passed. The community transportation grant funding must be spent by March 2025, and the service must be implemented by March 2024.
Lennox and Addington County approved a new transportation proposal from Loyalist Township on May 24. The township was granted $192,000 based upon the proposed hybrid transportation service that will provide a connection from Route 10 to the businesses along Taylor Kidd Boulevard and to other communities within the township.
Mayor Jim Hegadorn noted this would be an important investment for many people in the community.
"I know that there's going to be some pretty happy people to see that we're progressing on this, and the fact we're actually being able to invest the money we have received through the county as well," said Mayor Hegadorn
The RFEI will be posted to the Loyalist Township website.
