Born and raised in Nelson, Bruno Campese lifted the Stanley Cup as a member of the Vegas Golden Knights on Tuesday.

The Golden Knights defeated the Florida Panthers 9-3 to win the series four games to one and capture their first championship.

Campese started working as a scout with the Golden Knights in the summer of 2016, their first year as an organization. He was one of the team’s original employees and helped build the team from expansion to Stanley Cup Champions.

Campese had a long professional hockey career as a goaltender in Europe and represented Italy four times including the 1994 Olympic Winter Games in Lillehammer, Norway. After retiring from playing hockey in 2000, Campese began a career as a coach. His first job was in the British Columbia Hockey League with the Trail Smoke Eaters; he eventually worked his way up to the general manager position of the Prince Albert Raiders in the Western Hockey League.
