Former Nelson resident and L.V Rogers alum Matti Erickson has qualified for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Track and Field Championships beginning today in Austin, Texas.

Erickson is in his sophomore season at the University of Oregon. Two weeks ago, at the west qualifiers in Sacramento, California, he ran two personal bests in the 800M. After entering the tournament ranked 43rd out of 48 participants, he finished in sixth place.

His time of 1:46.84 earned him a spot in the national championship for the first time.

Prior to attending the University of Oregon, he represented Canada at the 2021 World U20 Championships in Nairobi, Kenya. He also won gold in the 800M and 1500M races at the 2019 U18 Canadian League National Championships.

The NCAA Track and Field Championships run June 7-10 in Austin, Texas.
