The 28-year-old Nelson police officer who died following an avalanche in Kaslo on Jan. 9 was remembered this week as a positive, caring and dedicated officer.
On Monday, a celebration of life was held for Const. Mathieu Nolet, an officer who passed away last week from the injuries he sustained while out on a backcountry ski trip with another Nelson police officer, 43-year-old Wade Tittemore. Friends and relatives, as well as a large gathering of police officers, were in attendance.
"Your son has been a pleasure to work with," Nelson Police Chief Donovan Fisher told the family at the funeral, which was broadcasted through Facebook. "He is a true gentleman, and everything I think a police officer should be."
The death of the two officers has rendered nationwide attention, amid an unusually active avalanche season in the region.
