The city of Terrace is organizing a series of crafting events at the Sportsplex, to give families something to do during the holidays following the loosening of COVID-19 restrictions.

With COVID-19 restricting holiday activities for the past two years, Organizer Debbie Van't Kruis says people are now looking to get out of the house "We've had a couple of events here at the Sportsplex now where it's become really apparent that kids, families just want to get out and do things again". 

Since mid-November, Terrace has hosted several craft fairs around town and has been offering free skate days throughout the weeks. Continuing the trend, next week will see the start of the ‘Holly Jolly Holiday Workshops’. 

From Dec. 19 to Dec. 22 several crafting workshops will be offered throughout the day for kids pre-school aged and up for $10 per class. One instructor Cindy Hall even says that if a parent has holiday errands to run, they can drop their child off and pick them up after. 

Each class is an hour and a half, with kids from ages 3 to 5 starting at 9 am, kindergarten to grade 3 aged kids starting at 11 am, and grades 4 and up starting at 1 pm. There will also be an adult craft night on Dec. 20 from 6:30 to 8:30 for $20. To reserve a spot, call the Terrace Sportsplex at (250)-615-3000. 

Hall says that crafts will range from ornaments to air-drying clay projects to little gnomes. The adults will have the chance to take it a step further with some driftwood projects for things like Christmas trees, mason jar crafts, and wreath making. 

Van’t Kruis also mentioned that Dec. 17 will be the day of free Festive Family Fun at the Sportsplex for crafts, games and stories. During that time a free public skate will be held with a visit from contemporary ice skater Taylor Dilley.
