Six Nations Caretakers is looking for more safety measures around schools and in higher risk areas in the community.

The Caretakers group was established in May with the primary purpose of creating a safer environment for children and young women.

At the Oct. 25 Six Nations council meeting, founder and President Sonny Maracle asked for greater road and traffic safety around schools and high traffic areas, like Fourth Line and Chiefswood Roads, where many kids attending JC Hill school cross to go to school. The Caretakers would like to see speed bumps, crosswalk signs, speed limit signs, more crossing guards and security cameras in place to assist in slowing traffic down, especially in school zones.

Council passes a motion supporting the Caretakers wishes but Maracle voiced concerns, as he hasn't yet heard back from council as expected by Oct. 28.

Maracle stopped by the CKRZ studios to give an update on their child safety progress and to follow up on the recent presentation to the Six Nations Elected Council.
