For over ten years, Kerry (Marion) McKellar has been the administrator for Klahoose First Nation. McKellar is retiring at the end of 2022. The job is being split into three new roles: administrator, finance manager and infrastructure manager.

Marion Janssen is a human resources consultant for the Klahoose First Nation. Janssen elaborates on the opportunities for locals on Cortes Island.

“They will be full time, and for us, for Klahoose, that is Monday to Thursday. So they're four days a week.”

Annual salaries for the jobs range between $75,000-$90,000. The median household income on Cortes Island is $34,432, according the the Strathcona Regional District Community Profile for Cortes Island.

“There's certainly a lot going on with the nation right now. And we have, you know, we've had a fantastic administrator working with us for the last 10 years. And really she's been holding down the fort …And we are really looking at the growth and opportunity for our members, " The HR consultant added. "Therefore, we're looking for three leaders to come into the community and work in these positions. Ideally, if we could find somebody that is of first nations heritage, that would be excellent, but we are open to others outside of the nations as well.”
