The Indigenous Experience will be featured at this year’s K Days event in Edmonton for the first time.

The attraction will offer a space for people to gather and learn about  the histories, cultures and experiences of First Nations' and Métis peoples in the Edmonton and Beaver Hills regions. It will also include an opening ceremony and fun activities for the kids to take part in.

The Indigenous Experience content was informed by conversations with over 50 Indigenous Elders, educators, historians and community members.

Windspeakermedia’s own Shannon Medaglia sat down with General Manager for Indigenous Edmonton Entertainment Group Marlene Poitrais who shared what people can expect at this year’s event.

Poitrais says the event will have a children’s area which will feature the Ben Calf Robe Society. The organization will offer different educational opportunities to the children by making crafts and teaching them about the culture.

One of the partners that will be contributing to the event will be Encore — the event management company will be setting up the visuals and sounds, along with setting up the stage. Poitrais says there was a lot of blood, sweat and tears that went into the event.

Indigenous Day is Monday, July 25 at K Days: free tickets will be available for Indigenous peoples at Indigenous Edmonton Entertainment Group Association. The Indigenous Experience will be located at Hall C at Fort Edmonton Park.

K Days is the annual summer exhibition that runs 10- days in Edmonton. K Days 2022 is being held from July 22-31.
