The 59th Six Nations Elected Council's (SNEC) members were officially sworn into office during the Nov. 7 General Council meeting.
The Six Nations General Election took place on Nov. 4 with advanced polls happening on Oct. 21 and 28.
Two candidates were in the running for Six Nations Elected Chief, Sherri-Lyn Hill, Steve Williams, and 13 others were running for councilor positions. The election saw 1,500 ballots cast in the voting for Chief and Sherri-Lyn Hill walked away the winner after receiving 606 votes to Williams' 444 votes.
The 12 councilor positions were filled by returning councilors Greg Frazer (550 votes), Melba Thomas (511), Hazel Johnson (494), Helen Miller (479), Audrey Powless Bomberry (470) and Kerry Bomberry (459) and new councillors Cynthia Jamieson (576), Alaina VanEvery (451), Dayle Bomberry (444), Amos Keye (414), Dean Hill (369) and Carole Greene (311).
Jennifer Murdock (308) was the only councilor candidate who did not receive enough votes for election.
Six Nations Chief Sherri-Lyn Hill spoke on her victory and thanked the community for it's support in the election.
"It is with a profound sense of gratitude and humility that I have been elected as the 59th Six Nations of the Grand River Elected Chief. It is an honour and a privilege to have the trust and confidence of our community members," she said.
"I am deeply committed to serving you with dedication, passion and a vision. I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation to all of those who participated in the election process and to all of Six Nations of the Grand River for giving me this incredible opportunity to lead our resilient community."
The official swearing in ceremony took place on Nov. 7 during the first general council meeting of the new term and councilors will be undertaking orientation in the coming weeks.
