On Monday morning, it was revealed that the 2024 World Field Archery Championship will be held in Lac La Biche, Alberta.

The news comes as a great surprise to Rene Schaub, Club President of Lakeland Archers, who helped organize the event and get it off the ground.

The championship, which is held every two years, was in Yankton South Dakota back in October of this year. Canada ended up taking home one gold medal during the contest.

The tournament has been held in places all across the world, and only three World Archery Championships have been held in Canada. Lac La Biche played host to two of those three, with them hosting the World 3D Archery Championship in 2019, and the World Field Archery Championship in 2024. The only other place in Canada to host any World Archery tournament is Victoria with the Outdoor Target Championship in 1997.

Schaub says the potential that this tournament has for Lac La Biche is huge.

With the tournament being another 2 years down the road, there are a lot of preparations to be done. Even with all of that time ahead, Schaub says they are ready to host some of the best archers in the world.
