2 Ro Media is hosting a new one of a kind arts and culture festival on Six Nations this week, based on displays of larger than life artwork and video footage gathered since 2020 and throughout the COVID pandemic.
One of the presentations is called 'Big Silver House For The People', a media film that will be projected on to a large scale circular screen where the audience will be able to see the narrative of the story coming to life in a new digital form.
During the Covid-19 pandemic lock down, 2 Ro media invited local Six Nations performers to perform in front of a large green screen where the traditional thanksgiving teachings will come to life. The content of the film is based on the thanks giving address.
2 Ro Media consists of January Rogers and Jackson Two-bears, who are also from Six Nations and moving back to the Six Nations area to take a position at Western University teaching studio arts. The duo has been working together for the last 8 years doing audio, video and performance art. This festival is the latest instalment of their work so far.
Although the content of the film is based on the thanks giving address, January Rogers explained "depending on the information and experience and teachings that any individual comes to this environment with, they will use those skills to ... make their own interpretation of the film we're presenting. So its perfectly fine. We’re not here to say there is only one narrative to this. There could be several narratives to this and we welcome that."
The events kick off with an invite-only soft launch of performances which will be taking place on Wednesday October 18th at Thru The Red Door. The evening will begin with a traditional thanks giving address opening by community member Joe Martin as well as displaying artwork & video footage.
On the evening of the soft launch for the festival there will also be performances by the Six Nations women singers with the grand launch starting Thursday October 19th at Thru The Red Door where doors will open at 4:00PM EST. Day 3 of the festival there will also be more performers such as Young Tribe, a Powwow drum group located out of Six Nations.
